Change of Chair at Penrith Building Society

Rob Cairns - Non-executive Director and Chairman, Penrith Building Society

After nearly nine years of serving on the Board of Penrith Building Society Rob Cairns retired as Chair on the 1st of November.

Having begun as a trainee Manager at Abbey National Building Society in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1975, Rob has spent his career serving the Building Society and mutual sector. After joining the Cumberland Building Society in 1983 as Assistant Secretary, he rose through the ranks to Deputy Chief Executive, leaving in 1997 to take over as the Chief Executive of Furness Building Society in Barrow in Furness until 2011.

In 2013, Rob joined the Board of Directors at Penrith Building Society, quickly stepping up as Chair and has remained a huge asset to the Society. Upon retiring from the Society, Rob will retain a small number of directorships but hopes to be able to spend more time focusing on his passions of watching sport and travelling with his wife Lesley. The Society would like to give sincere thanks to Rob for his service and commitment and wish him the very best in the future.

Regarding Rob’s successor, the Society is pleased to announce that Will Lindsay has agreed to step up from his role as Non-Executive Director to Chair after receiving approval from the Prudential Regulation Authority and will lead the Board of Directors from the 1st of November.
